Things you should always have at home

Most homes have quite a lot of junk in them – items which were bought on a whim, or which were received as gifts, which are almost never used and sit at the bottom of a cupboard somewhere, ignored and forgotten. The problem is that, although some people realize that the item is junk very quickly, they feel bad about receiving a gift from someone and then immediately throwing it out, so they end up keeping it and never using it.

Meanwhile, there are countless times when an item is needed to perform a particular task, and nothing suitable in the whole household can be found to do it. Your home is full of stuff which you never use, but you still don’t have the right tools for the job.

That’s why you should always make sure you have certain, specific items at home, which can be used for multiple purposes. One such item is the rubber, or a tub of them. They’re traditionally used for helping to create space – by being able to keep rolled up papers and other fabrics together tightly, without damaging them. If you find that your bedsheets, covers, tablecloths and other similar items take up a lot of storage space, even when folded, you could try rolling them up instead, and securing them with a couple of rubber bands.

Of course, the joy of rubber bands doesn’t stop there. Many women use them to tie their hair up, to keep it off their neck and shoulders and stop it from troubling them when doing certain kinds of work, or to help them cool off a bit when the weather is hot, by allowing the air to get to their neck and back.

They can also be used to protect items from a fall. Have you ever seen someone wrap a couple of thick rubber bands around each end of their smartphone? Or around each end of a remote control? This is especially popular in families with young children, to prevent the phone or remote from being damaged when it hits the floor, as it so often does.

Another household item, which you’ll wonder how you ever managed to survive without, is the stand mixer. Some people might associate such as item with baking cakes, and decide that, as they don’t eat cake, they don’t need a stand mixer. This is a very serious mistake, as such people risk being among those who can’t find the right tool for the job in a number of situations. Stand mixers are excellent at many jobs. For example, if you’ve decided you want to make home-made pizza, you’ll need a grater to grate the cheese with. Don’t have one? Do it with the stand mixer, The same goes for a beater, when you want to beat eggs and a fork just won’t do. Stand mixers can also be fitted with a strainer, which will do when you want to drink fresh fruit juice, but don’t have a juicer. There are so many more possibilities, too – meat grinder, ice cream maker, grain mill – the stand mixer really is an essential kitchen item and should be one of the first tools you buy if you plan on preparing food. There are quite a few on the market, but you can read the best reviews and get the right information you need only at Mixer Picks.

Packing a hairdryer to take with you on a trip might seem, to many, like an unnecessary waste of space – which it is, if you’re staying in a hotel which already provides hair dryers. However, if you’re not sure whether your hotel does provide hair dryers, you’d better pack your own just in case. Hair dryers are obviously great for drying your hair, but they can also be used to get rid of unwanted wrinkles and creases in clothes – most often found after they have been packed into a suitcase and taken on a journey. Simply sprinkle water on the wrinkles and use the dryer to get rid of them. They can also be used to de-fog your bathroom mirror, which typically happens after you’ve taken a long, hot shower.
